Operating across 3 divisions, Road, Air & Sea and Solutions, DSV provides quality, innovative and value-added services. We are looking for a Senior Manager to drive growth and further enhance our current service offerings to clients across the whole of the UK and Ireland.

Our ideal candidate is already a successful Manager with a strong transport background with a proven track record at a Senior Operational Management level. At DSV we use a range of proven technologies and being part of the wider DSV team will assist you in achieving your objectives.


The Senior Manager is responsible for implementing the operational strategy whilst always delivering the highest level of customer satisfaction.
They will also be responsible for strengthening the operational structure and ensuring strict governance of industry rules and regulations. In addition, the Senior Manager will ensure that the division meets performance standards as per Company KPIs.

Main purpose of the job

To ensure the efficient delivery of services to our customers and in line with the company’s business strategy and the effective control of all functions to maximise profitability and operational excellence.

Business unit key figures:

  • Scope: Irish Sea (UK/IRL), cross-border (NI/IRL) and domestic (NI) operations
  • Shipments per annum: 84,000
  • Direct reports: 20

Key tasks


  • Ensuring that the division implements effective and efficient management of all operating systems and procedures in line with Company guidelines.
  • Ensuring that the operational performance of the division is monitored and reviewed on an ongoing basis and that remedial action is taken to deal with unsatisfactory results.
  • Ensuring that all equipment is maintained to maximise its value and comply with current legal and safety requirements.
  • To promote, support and implement the Company's continuous improvement program/s.
  • Develop key performance indicators and metrics by which departmental and individual performance can be measured.
  • Remedial action and undertaking root cause analysis is taken in the case of unacceptable underperformance


  • Ensuring the efficient management of the divisions financial accounts and the implementation of effective financial control procedures in line with Company guidelines.
  • Maintaining effective liaison with the divisional financial controller.
  • Controlling of all overhead budgets for the division, including employment, fleet and other overhead costs to maximise profitability in line with the division's business plans.

People & Culture

  • Promoting a positive culture and enjoyable working environment
  • Overseeing the recruitment, training, development and performance management of all personnel within the division.
  • Maintaining appropriate liaison with the Company’s HR department.
  • Ensuring that all employees fully understand their roles and job requirements and that they are assessed through regular performance reviews.
  • Maintaining an effective chain of communication with peers to ensure operational and financial performance is reviewed on a regular basis, by encompassing daily, weekly and monthly meetings.
  • Align employees, processes and structures with strategic direction and Company’s needs.
  • Establish a clear concept of proactive management.

Work experience

The ideal candidate will have 5 years plus work related experience with excellent transport operations knowledge.

International and national operational experience is essential.
